Organization
Split the girls into groups of three. One ball for each group. Create a grid using the midfield line and the top of the penalty box as boundaries. Place one cone about 10 yards from midfield and another about 10 yards from the penalty box for each grid. Girl A starts at midfield in front of the cone, Girl B starts on the penalty box in line with the other cone, and Girl C starts on the cone in front of Girl A. Girl A has the ball.
Procedure
On go, Girl A makes a short pass to Girl C, who receives with one touch and makes a return short pass to Girl A. Girl A receives the ball, sets herself up, and makes a long pass to Girl B. Girl A sprints down to the cone in front of Girl B, and Girl C moves to the opening created by Girl A. Girl B now makes a short pass to Girl A, who receives and plays a return short pass back to Girl B. Girl B receives, sets herself, and makes a long pass to Girl C. Repeat.

Soccer Passing Drill - Short Short Long
Soccer Shooting Drill - Quick Shot
Objective
- Develop confidence with longer shooting
- Getting off shots quicker
- Aggressiveness
Organization
Split the players into two groups. Create a cone zone about 30 yards from the goal. Have the players line up in the cone zone, and the others off to the side.
Procedure
Coach will serve the ball somewhere between the cone zone and the keeper. The player must get to the ball and shoot without dribbling. Alternate a new player after each shot. Players should retrieve their balls and serve them back to the coach’s area. Have the players shoot with right foot, then left foot.
Coaching Points
- Quick shots!
- No dribbling
- Proper shooting format
- Be aggressive – look to shoot & score – not to dribble or pass.
- Shoot from far away.
- Aim for different parts of the goal.
Soccer Shooting Drill - Instep Shooting
Objective
- Shooting accuracy
- Proper shooting form
- Shooting competition
Organization
Set up two 25 X 25 grids. Put 4 water bottles in the middle. Split the girls into two teams. Each team gets a grid. The girls should line up on all sides of the grid. Give each team 2-3 balls.
Procedure
On start, the girls should aim to knock over the water bottles by shooting with their laces.
Coaching Points
- Strike the ball with the shoelaces, toe pointed down, ankle locked
- Non-kicking (plant) foot should be next to the ball and slightly behind it and pointed towards the target.
- Players should try to land on their kicking foot to use the full transfer of body weight.
Soccer Shooting Drill - Shooting Warm Up
Objectives
- Focus on shooting accuracy
- Shoot on net under lightly stressful conditions
- Create competition
To start this exercise, you should divide the team into three equal groups. Place cones at the top of the 18 and in each corner of the 18. All players should have their own balls - and they are responsible for that ball! The players should then number themselves off from 1 to whatever and then be prepared to shoot in that order.
Procedure
The first exercise is to hit the cross-bar. When the coach yells "Go!", the teams can shoot as fast as they want just as long as they shoot in correct order. After a shot is taken, that player must quickly retreive their ball, get back and be ready for their next chance as soon as possible because if 2 through 6 have already gone the group must wait until #1 gets back and goes in order.
There are two ways to win. The first team to hit the crossbar 10 times will immediately win. If no team reaches 10 hits, the team with the highest number of crossbar hits after four minutes will win.
The two losing team should pay some type of penalty (push ups, sit ups, quick sprints, etc).
Variation
The next exercise is the same as above but now the players must shoot the ball in the goal and the ball must hit the back of the next in the air. It can’t bounce before it goes in the goal. Same four minute games or first team to 10 goals. Remember the players still must go in order.
