Objectives
- Focus on shooting accuracy
- Shoot on net under lightly stressful conditions
- Create competition
To start this exercise, you should divide the team into three equal groups. Place cones at the top of the 18 and in each corner of the 18. All players should have their own balls - and they are responsible for that ball! The players should then number themselves off from 1 to whatever and then be prepared to shoot in that order.
Procedure
The first exercise is to hit the cross-bar. When the coach yells "Go!", the teams can shoot as fast as they want just as long as they shoot in correct order. After a shot is taken, that player must quickly retreive their ball, get back and be ready for their next chance as soon as possible because if 2 through 6 have already gone the group must wait until #1 gets back and goes in order.
There are two ways to win. The first team to hit the crossbar 10 times will immediately win. If no team reaches 10 hits, the team with the highest number of crossbar hits after four minutes will win.
The two losing team should pay some type of penalty (push ups, sit ups, quick sprints, etc).
Variation
The next exercise is the same as above but now the players must shoot the ball in the goal and the ball must hit the back of the next in the air. It can’t bounce before it goes in the goal. Same four minute games or first team to 10 goals. Remember the players still must go in order.
